Laptops, if you didn’t know, are portable computers. They open and shut, much like books and the top half is the screen and the bottom half has the keyboard and this little touch pad thing that acts as a mouse. You can plug in your own keyboard and mouse if you don’t like the laptop equivalents but I have gotten used to the way my laptop is. I remember the first day that I got my laptop, I was so happy. The computer I had in my room before the laptop was this piece of shit computer that Chris sold me for one hundred dollars because he is a dick. The computer would have been worth like twenty dollars, maximum, and now it would be worth less. I made do with it though, and I got used to it. I didn’t mind that it took four minutes to open up iTunes, and that it froze every time a new song started up in iTunes. The laptop was unbelievable, iTunes opened up in like four seconds, not four minutes, and the computer had Windows Vista, not XP, so it just looked nicer.
At first I was not used to the keyboard. I thought to myself that I would never, ever be able to type on it, so I bookmarked all the sites that I would ever have to go on, ever. Sites that I have been on like, once were bookmarked, just so if I ever wanted to go on them again, I wouldn’t have to type out the address, I could just click on the bookmark. As I gained experience at typing on my laptop, I seemed to lose the ability to type on other keyboards, and when I went to other people’s houses and used their computers, I would find myself misspelling words, then going to delete them and instead of hitting the backspace key I would miss and hit the ‘equals key’. It was when I got amazing at typing on my laptop that Jesse gave me the idea of writing this blog. He didn’t say it like that though, like he didn’t say ‘Hey Cosma, now that you are good at typing on your laptop you should write a blog’ but by the time that he recommended me joining the world of blogging, I was amazing at typing on my laptop.
Every other computer that I used just started to seem more and weirder, and whenever I would type on my laptop I would barely ever hit the wrong key on the keyboard, and I soon convinced myself that my computer was the best computer in the world. Whenever I said that though, it made Chris really angry, because he has what you could technically call a better computer, but it is one that I am not very used to. I have written a few blogs at his house before, but they always took me longer to write because I was unfamiliar with his keyboard. I had the same problem whenever I went to write a blog at Linou’s house, because his laptop’s keyboard was completely different, and same with Brett’s. I was at Brett’s today, but I had brought my own laptop so that I didn’t have to use his laptop of which I am unfamiliar with. I have been bringing my laptop wherever I go recently, I mean not like, out, but if I am going to someone’s house I would generally just bring it. We were sitting at Brett’s watching Watchmen on the TV, Kenny was next to me waiting for me to finish with my laptop so he could use it, and Chris was behind me on Brett’s laptop. I was having a great chat with Hayden before Kenny rudely snatched the laptop off of me and began to do some Facebooking of his own.
Before Kenny could really do anything, Chris said that he wanted to go home and I was tired and yeah, I just wanted to go home as well. I got the laptop off of Kenny, turned it off and walked out the door. I took that small step down from Brett’s door to the driveway safely, not tripping or anything, before I walked straight into a bike that was for some reason in the middle of the driveway, lying down so that no one could see it. I hit the ground fairly hard; I don’t know if the blood on my knee was from hitting the ground or from cutting myself on the bike, but what I do know is that the laptop hit the ground a lot harder than I did. I remember when we bought the laptop, the Harvey Norman guy that sold it to us was telling me what a sturdy machine it was, he was treating the laptop like a punching bag and it was still working. I got up off the ground and picked my laptop up off the ground. I opened it up and pressed the on button, the screen lit up with this weird white screen with cracks all over it, and the colour was completely distorted. The screen was fully cracked internally and yeah, it was absolutely fucked. I was really angry and really sad, and I was in a fuck load of pain. I got in Chris’s car and he took me home.
On a normal day, as in a day where I get home and I am in a good mood because I didn’t just destroy my laptop, if I get home late I try to unlock the front door as quietly as possible, close it quietly and then come inside. Mum wakes up anyway, every time that I get home she knows, and as I pass by her room I just say something like ‘yeah I’m home’ and she will say ‘yes’ or something back. I walked in before and I let the door swing open, hitting the wall, and it made that loud door hitting wall sound, I then closed the door behind me, walked past mum’s room and before I even said anything she said ‘be more quiet when you come in’ and then I just said that my laptop is broken, it went on until she realised what I meant, she said how broken and my response was ‘broken, broken’. I couldn’t sleep, and neither could mum as she got up looking for receipts. She came into my room and she said that she found the receipt for the laptop, and she found the thing that said if the warranty covered accidental breakage or whatever you call it, and it didn’t.
My plan for the night was to go home when Chris took me home and go to bed, which would have been an early one compared to the last few nights. Instead I spent this time of which I couldn’t sleep looking for a cord that I know that I had that is the cable that goes from a computer monitor to a computer, so that I could plug my laptop into the twenty two inch computer monitor that is in my room. The monitor is used for playing Xbox but seeing as though my Xbox is broken, out of warranty and I don’t think I will be getting a new one until like, after Christmas, I decided to plug my laptop into the monitor just to see if the laptop still works. It still works, and I have typed the last thing on my laptop. Just that I have been typing on another keyboard that I plugged in, using another mouse that I have plugged in and looking at another screen that I have plugged in. When I started typing this blog I wasn’t used to the keyboard at all, but now I have gotten used to it and I am really typing like an amazingly amazing typing person guy. It is four in the morning, and I really just... I’m not tired, but I know that I should go to bed, so I’m going to leave it at that.
